Re-creating the 1920's Galway Girl

Original Image from this weekend's shoot in Galway ..edited and aged...
Love to hear your thoughts on my edit. I based the look an some original 1920's images I've seen online. Would you believe this was taken in the 1920's?

Sunshine

I've been enjoying the weather in Ireland the past week so much....did I just write that! Ok, it's back to the rain now, but it was nice while it lasted. My posting has slowed down quite a bit since I moved to Dublin, but I'm still going to make a bit effort to take pictures outside of work and post them here.
Last weekend I took a trip down to Wexford with my sister for my first time and it didn't disappoint. Visited the beutiful beach and dunes at Curracloe. A lovely lunch in the new Tapas place with a friendly waiter to pass the time and a few pics in Wexford town, made for a great weekend away.

Budapest in March

A tower straight out of a fairy tale
I love this city, the people are so nice(except for a few thieving taxi drivers) and it's beautiful. I tried the national dish, Goulash soup but have to admit to not being a fan, otherwise the food was really nice with unusual combinations of Parmesan cheese on rice and paprika crisps. Paprika seems to be the national spice(do we have an Irish national spice?), as they sell little bags of it to gullible tourists like me.Hidden gem in the city...just stumbled into this lovely place

The madness of moving

Appologies for the lack of updates here lately. Moving to the big smoke has taken up all my time and the chaos of the past 3 weeks has finally caught up with me in the form of the flu. yeah! I'm still living out of a bag, but thankfully the couch surfing has come to an end and I have a room to call mine at least for a time.
I'm pleased to say I am the newest member of the Picture House Photography team. Located in Rathmines in South Dublin, we have a class new studio and we also do home family portraits. It's a fast paced growing business and tons of fun. I'm loving being back in Dublin too, being able to go for a walk and meet a friend in a cafe on a whim is a big change from country living.
All this, and I managed to make it away to Budapest for a weekend break. :) I'll get something from that trip up soon.

Meanwhile here's one from my last shoot in Galway with Samantha and Patrick, two of the best Salsa dancers in the city.
Hope you all had a great St Patricks day. Lovely to see the sun shining again for it.

Galway in the shadows

Went out Friday night to take some night pictures in Galway with some fellow photographers and ended up getting them to model for me :D Thanks Alan! I had an idea in my head, but as often happens it was difficult to translate to the camera. Always helps to get a second opinion... and the use of a working tripod! Mine's kaput! So this is probably the last Galway expedition for a while. Moving up to Dublin this weekend and really looking forward to it. Very excited to be working full-time in Photography and with a team.

Pixels Are Like Cupcakes

Great article here if your in the 'more pixels equals better quality pictures' camp. Or simply, if you have any interest in Digital cameras or are planning on buying one soon. This is a must read. It's certainly given me a greater understanding of megapixels.

1st Scottish Salsa Congress

Salsa legs and a kilt...where else but in the wonderful city of Edinburgh can you find this!

Intense
Mo FLex just after he warmed up the crowd for the night saluting the DJ

There were so many fantastic performances by dancers from all over the worldThis performance was posted on youtube and you can see me(or, at least the back of my head and my flash), just in front of the camera taking these shots...ah the beauty of the internet :)

This weekend was as much fun as it looks and more. The 1st Scottish Salsa Congress organised by Sagi and the crew from Salsasuave was a huge success, they've already set the date for next years Congress.

Little miracle

Welcome to the world baby Cathal! Cathal is the latest addition to this beautiful family of three boys. It was my immense pleasure to meet this little guy, the very day he turned two weeks old. I wanted to put up every shot I took of him, however I will restrain myself here...and flood flickr instead :)

These shots are Straight out of the camera. Used natural light from a window and a reflector for fill. A nifty trick I picked up to use a hot-water bottle just beneath the blanket, worked a treat for keeping the little fella happy.

Mornin Neighbour!

Check out what we found in the garden...
Hey, this thing makes nuts! better bring it home to the misses...Now how's this gonna work...

nope... I could...
not that way...oh ya, now I have it!
ummm...
Ok... one nut left...sod the misses... I'm going in!so it seems the stresses of moving house pays off, with cute and fuzzy new neighbours! :)
I'm really enjoying all the wildlife here in this little cottage by the Turlough in Craughwell. The birds are entertaining too and I'm filling the feeder every couple of days. Think Bushy here is helping them with that. These images are a bit noisy, bit early in the morning for me, ISO was at 1600! What the *! I'll be ready next time ;)
