On location

Yesterday I had a great outdoor shoot with the very lovely aspiring model, Sam. Brave girl to withstand the freezing cold temperatures of this green Isle in scant clothing, all in the name of art. Being a bit experimental and trying to hone in some camera skills I came out with some interesting results. Number one, I've learned how important it is to prepare. I did, this time, and found it to make a big difference. Secondly, time passes very very quickly when shooting, before you know it you've lost all your daylight and it's all over. My big mistake was trying to include two different locations and styles into the one day. That is, when you start make up at 3:30, anyway. The team included Tina the make-up artist, our model Sam, wearing her own clothes and myself. The Addison Lodge kindly provided some space for costume changes and makeup. Initially I chose a Cemetery for the shoot, but after hearing it was beside the Botanic Gardens, it would be a shame not to take advantage. We started here, and this is where time became an issue, as we only left when we were kicked out at closing time. That left very little daylight for the cemetery shots I had planned for. Anyway, here's two shots from the day, hope you like.

The great outdoors

I haven't done many outdoor shoots lately and visiting my dear friend Saoirse today reminded of one we did a few months ago and how much fun they can be. Isn't she lovely...and she's even lovelier on the inside. Planning an outdoor fashion shoot for the weekend, so will post the results next week.

St Patricks Day

Hope everyone had a great Paddy's day. I missed the Parade unfortunately but made it into Dublin to catch Kila play at the Olympia. They are extremely talented musicians, but the show lacked a certain extra Paddy's day spirit I was hoping for. Lots of painted faces and red bearded men, and women, in hats around town, the atmosphere was great. Wasn't permitted to bring the camera in to see Kila though.

I hate Vista

Could Windows Vista be any more irritating... I was mistaken thinking getting the latest version of the Windows OS was a good idea. Everything I plugged in, was incompatible and just when I thought I'd manage with it, it crashed my computer. Having not done a backup in the last few weeks(my bad), I had to pay to get my data recovered while they wipped the hard drive. This is the only way to overcome the issues Vista causes... I've lost three days work while it was in for repair, and the money this cost. Vista are apparently bringing out an upgrade to deal with most of the issues soon. I'm not holding my breath. I'd recommend anyone buying a new PC, stick to XP or better still buy a MAC and save yourself a while world of trouble.

Flickr

I've posted the below image on a Photography critique group on Flickr. I've been really impressed with the responses. Very Constructive criticisms and good advice for improving. As I'm new to Fashion photography and pretty much teaching myself, it's great to get some feedback from some top photographers.

Unfortunately I missed the Blog awards last Saturday, it would have been nice to met some of the people who's blogs I love. I registered too late, and it was sold out. Congrats to gingerpixel for winning Photoblog of the year. I love it!
And the official photos by rymus on Pix.ie from the night were great, looks like it was a fun night.

So much for sunny Spring

Snowed really heavy for about an hour and covered the landscape like so. It's been a while since I've seen snow like this in Ireland, strange that it's in March too... right, I'm off to build a snowman.

Happy March!

It's March! Oh goody, Spring is in the air...well not so much today, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. This is Lilly from photos I did for a pet calendar. Bring on the sunshine...
