Experimenting with studio lighting

My usual three light set up (one on backdrop, Key light camera right and fill left)

Introducing Arlene! Who kindly agreed to be my model for a day in the studio while I ran around moving and adjusting lights and getting her to contort into all sorts of positions ;). We had loads of fun and hopefully we'll do it again soon. This was great to get my creative juices flowing again. My personal challenge for the day was use the three studio lights in different ways to my everyday family shoot set-up. If you are interested in knowing more about the lighting in any of these images, please comment or email me and I'd be happy to fill you in. Also, love to hear your feedback on which you liked/disliked the most.

Two light set ups:

Key light to my right and one fill camera left

Key light facing model, second lighting backdrop

One light set ups:

One light above and camera left, angled downwards

One light camera right pointing down. Taken from height of a wobbly stool

Thanks Arlene!

Scottish Salsa Congress 2010

This Congress in Edinburgh is soo much fun, I'm still buzzing from last weekend. The performances were top class and we all danced till the early hours to great music by some fantastic DJ's. Here's the first snippet for you. I've still a lot of images to go through and edit for their website, I'll be picking out my fav's and posting them as I go along.
Hope you enjoy

Happy new year!

Welcome to 2010!
New year, new start, right? well that's the plan for most of us it seems. Looking back on what I planned to do for '09 and what I did, I don't do too badly. Unfortunately I didn't keep this blog as up to date as I'd like, but the main thing... making a living doing what I love on a daily basis, I did that. yippeee ;)
So this year... back to blogging and regularly challenging my creative photography with new projects... oh, and make some money (that'd be nice)
Dublin is covered in a layer of pretty white snow. It's rare to get enough snow to actually make snowmen here, and I love it. Last night there was like a frozen mist in the air and as the street lights caught them it looked like glitter everywhere. Wayyyy too cold to hang around and take any pictures of it though, so you'll have to take my word for it, very pretty. This will have to do for now... the view from my bedroom window this morning/noon :)

Yes, I live in an attic (like cinders). Those two mounds under the snow on the ledge are my flat mates and cousins shoes from Electric picnic '08 I believe...

May 2010 bring you all much health and happiness :D
Ciao

ps. ...from this, the blogging and pictures can only get better.. he he he

Re-creating the 1920's Galway Girl

Original Image from this weekend's shoot in Galway ..edited and aged...
Love to hear your thoughts on my edit. I based the look an some original 1920's images I've seen online. Would you believe this was taken in the 1920's?

Sunshine

I've been enjoying the weather in Ireland the past week so much....did I just write that! Ok, it's back to the rain now, but it was nice while it lasted. My posting has slowed down quite a bit since I moved to Dublin, but I'm still going to make a bit effort to take pictures outside of work and post them here.
Last weekend I took a trip down to Wexford with my sister for my first time and it didn't disappoint. Visited the beutiful beach and dunes at Curracloe. A lovely lunch in the new Tapas place with a friendly waiter to pass the time and a few pics in Wexford town, made for a great weekend away.
